Jane Garbert, born in 1988 in Berlin, studied Fine Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts (UDK), with a focus on Multimedia under Thomas Zipp and Painting/Drawing under Christine Streuli. She has received numerous accolades, including a nomination for the Berlin Masters Toy Award, the Young Art Advancement Award 2022, a scholarship from the Dorothea Konwiarz Foundation in 2020, and an artist residency in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Her recent projects include solo exhibitions at Galerie Vincenz Sala, feldfünf, zqm, and Lage Egal. She has also participated in group exhibitions at Kunstverein Tiergarten, Urban Spree Gallery, Galerie Burster, and Structura Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria.

A defining element of her practice is not only poetic sensibility but also a sober engagement with factual conditions. Sculptural states—whether discarded objects, makeshift attachments, or fleeting moments—serve as visual triggers. Everyday ornamentation plays a central role in her work. By tracking and observing seemingly banal processes—such as renovation scenarios, urban situations, or hidden labor routines— she captures them photographically and on film, only to later detach them from their original context and reveal new narratives.

Her search for a material equivalent is integral to this process, with her choice of media varying according to the situation. A consistent theme throughout her work is the equal treatment of everyday events and artistic processes, which drives her ongoing exploration of their transformative potential—through painterly and sculptural approaches.
