Garbert
Jane Garbert, born in 1988 in Berlin, studiedFine Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts (UDK), with a focus onMultimedia under Thomas Zipp and Painting/Drawing under Christine Streuli. Shehas received numerous accolades, including a nomination for the Berlin MastersToy Award, the Young Art Advancement Award 2022, a scholarship from theDorothea Konwiarz Foundation in 2020, and an artist residency in Sofia,Bulgaria.Herrecent projects include solo exhibitions at Galerie Vincenz Sala, feldfünf,zqm, and Lage Egal. She has also participated in group exhibitions atKunstverein Tiergarten, Urban Spree Gallery, Galerie Burster, and StructuraGallery in Sofia, Bulgaria.Adefining element of her practice is not only poetic sensibility but also asober engagement with factual conditions. Sculptural states—whether discardedobjects, makeshift attachments, or fleeting moments—serve as visual triggers.Everyday ornamentation plays a central role in her work. By tracking andobserving seemingly banal processes—such as renovation scenarios, urbansituations, or hidden labor routines— she captures them photographically and onfilm, only to later detach them from their original context and reveal newnarratives.Hersearch for a material equivalent is integral to this process, with her choiceof media varying according to the situation. A consistent theme throughout herwork is the equal treatment of everyday events and artistic processes, whichdrives her ongoing exploration of their transformative potential—throughpainterly and sculptural approaches.
