As the title suggests, the work radiates light and tonal notes that move from a singular sound to symphonic density as the images move from macro to micro scale, finally ending in a one-tile-per-pixel state. The sun’s brightness is mapped to a C2 tone on a synthesizer, then pitched to a different note ramp according to its position and the offset. As more rows and columns become visible, additional voices fade in and saturate the composition. In his time-based works, Roman Roth plays with the space between the figurative and the abstract. Through reconfiguration, repetition and sound modification, he transforms images into a newly constructed space. His videos are both formal and funny, joyfully critiquing consumerism while mirroring the human spirit in all its contradictions. 1990 born / based in Berlin
„Radio“ nutzt die Verschiebung der Bildsegmente eines simultan abgespielten Videos, um eine oszillierende Komposition zu erschaffen. Wie der Titel bereits andeutet, strahlt das Werk Licht und Töne aus; diese entwickeln sich von einem einzelnen Klang hin zu symphonischer Dichte, während die Bilder von der Makro- zur Mikroebene wechseln und schließlich in einem Zustand münden, in dem ein einzelnes Kachelelement einem Pixel entspricht. Die Helligkeit der Sonne wird auf den Ton C2 eines Synthesizers übertragen und anschließend – abhängig von ihrer Position und dem Versatz – in eine andere Tonfolge transponiert. Mit dem Sichtbarwerden weiterer Zeilen und Spalten werden zusätzliche Stimmen eingeblendet, die die Komposition klanglich verdichten. In seinen zeitbasierten Arbeiten spielt Roman Roth mit dem Zwischenraum von Figuration und Abstraktion. Durch Rekonfiguration, Wiederholung und Klangmanipulation transformiert er Bilder in einen neu konstruierten Raum. Seine Videos sind zugleich formal gestaltet und humorvoll; sie üben eine spielerische Kritik am Konsumverhalten und spiegeln dabei den menschlichen Geist in all seinen Widersprüchen wider.
